The future is NUVIA Instruments GmbH

With reference to the upcoming end of the year 2017, we want to inform you about our recent achievements and future aims of S.E.A. GmbH and MED Nuklear-Medizintechnik Dresden GmbH in order to keep you up to date with desired developments and pursued directions. To simplify our administration and to strengthen both locations in Dülmen and Dresden, SEA and MED will be merged under the company name ‘NUVIA Instruments GmbH’, with main office in Dülmen.

MED Nuklear-Medizintechnik Dresden GmbH becomes a member of the NUVIA group

Since 1997, MED Nuklear-Medizintechnik Dresden GmbH has been a daughter company of S.E.A. GmbH (Strahlenschutz-Entwicklungs-und Ausrüstungs-Gesellschaft / Radiation Protection Development and Equipment Company). Both companies have been cooperating very intensively and successfully.
In order to grow further and intensify our business, S.E.A. GmbH has decided to make an important step:

As from now, S.E.A. GmbH and thus also MED Nuklear-Medizintechnik Dresden GmbH belong to the French company NUVIA. With 2,700 employees and a turnover of approx. € 300 million, NUVIA is a centre of competence in the field of nuclear technology. NUVIA is a worldwide operating company. The main markets are France and UK. From the equipment of nuclear-technical facilities to their dismantling, NUVIA offers an extensive program. As a manufacturer of radiation measuring instruments, S.E.A. GmbH completes NUVIA’s performance profile.
MED Nuklear-Medizintechnik Dresden GmbH will remain active in the field of measuring instruments for nuclear medicine and radiopharmaceutical production. Using the worldwide channels of NUVIA, we will particularly focus on the further development of our international business.

In the new constellation, the management of S.E.A. GmbH and MED Nuklear-Medizintechnik Dresden GmbH as 100% daughter companies of NUVIA remains in the hands of Heinz Kirsch and Günter Werthmann.

We are looking forward to a good and intensive cooperation with the NUVIA group.

New brochure

As of October 2013, we have summarized our products for ​​nuclear medical technology in a new brochure. On 20 pages you will find our latest developments in radiation metrology for the following applications: radioiodine therapy, PET centers, radiopharmacy, nuclear medicine and radioimmunotherapy.

New calibration factors

α-emitter for therapy of bone metastases

Alpharadin® is a radioactive pharmaceutical ingredient based on Ra-223, an α-emitter. Alpharadin® is a new medicine of Bayer Healthcare. It is currently in a clinical phase III – study about prostate cancer and is expected to be registered soon.

Many kinds of cancer, like for example prostate cancer, develop bone metastases in the skeleton, often attended with very strong pain in the advanced state. Alpharadin® incorporates itself in the bone and emits its very high energy at shortest distance (0.1 mm). The physical half-life is 11.4 days.

On the initiative of Bayer Healthcare, MED Nuklear-Medizintechnik Dresden has determined the isotope factors for measuring Ra-223 with the dose calibrator ISOMED 2010 in cooperation with the University Hospital of Dresden, Germany. As a result it is possible now to measure the activity of the radioactive medicine Alpharadin® in a reliable and precise way before application.

Alpharadin® is an α-emitter. You can measure α-contamination with our portable contamination monitor CoMo-170 or also with the stationary HFC-contamination monitor.

 

Large project in Malaysia

In the region of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), a most modern, high-tech healthcare center for treatment of cancer patients is currently built by the Ministry of Health. MED Nuklear-Medizintechnik Dresden GmbH has been ordered by the planning company MEDCON to supply significant parts of the nuclear measuring equipment.

Amongst other products, our scope of supply consists of an online patient dosimetry system for current activity monitoring of a large radioiodine therapy ward with 28 patient beds. Additionally, the therapy station exits are also controlled. Systems for mobile and stationary contamination monitoring and a complete waste water monitoring of the therapy ward guarantee a highly modern radiation protection.

The center is planned to be taken into operation by the autumn of 2013 and will be the most modern centrum of this kind in Asia then.

PET-syringe filling module to Moscow

The newly developed syringe filling module SAM is designed for precise dose filling of PET-nuclides (F-18) in one-way syringes. Compared to manual syringe filling, the radiation exposure of the medical laboratory personnel is significantly reduced in this way.


In cooperation with the internationally active hospital planning and equipment company Inter Medico, Bad Homburg (Germany),
MED Nuklear-Medizintechnik Dresden GmbH has supplied a complete PET-working place consisting of a stainless steel work bench with lead castle, shielded waste containers and a syringe filling module to a PET-center
in Moscow. In this configuration, the syringe filling module SAM is combined with the PC-based dose calibrator ISOMED 2010, being its measuring and controlling component.

Special solution for our customers!

Mobile isotope workplace

In order to work with irradiated, highly active samples, we have made a customer-specific mobile isotope workplace with lead glass window for the Helmholtz Center Dresden, research department Leipzig.
The complete unit is made of stainless steel. The lead shielding is integrated in the stainless steel sandwich construction. Drawers complement the workplace. Practiced radiation protection!

Special solution for our customers!

Storage cabinet for irradiated targets

In order to store irradiated, highly active targets coming from the cyclotron intermediately, we have made and installed a customer-specific safe with 4 storage compartment for the Helmholtz Center Dresden, research department Leipzig. The safe’s storage boxes are shielded on all sides by 70 mm of lead (layered lead prismas). The total weight is approx. 7000 kg. The outside cladding is made of stainless steel.

Marinelli beaker: Takeover of Brandenberg + Rapp + Wilms GbR

On August 1, 2011, our sister company S.E.A. GmbH has taken over the business operations of Brandenberg + Rapp + Wilms GbR (www.marinellibecher.de). This helps us to expand our product portfolio to include a complete range of Marinelli beakers, for example, for radioactivity measurements of environmental samples or food in the laboratory.
